The Black Magician (1924) by Paul Madsack (Strange Novels #1)
THE BLACK MAGICIAN ("Der Schwarze Magier") (1924) is a strange occult terror novel from Germany's Paul Madsack, concerning The Master, a popular sculptor (and "influencer" of his day), who uses his powers of dark sorcery to expand his influence (and profit), even as he attempts to bring the unsuspecting, small-town painter Fiedler under his sway. A far-ranging novel, this includes glimpses of the political and cultural realities of Germany at the time, as background for a supernatural stew of weird scenarios and visionary excess. Includes an Afterword by the Translator.
